ADI's ADXL367 ultra-low power, 3-axis microelectromechanical system (MEMS) accelerometer consumes only 0.89 μA at 100 Hz output data rate and 180 nA in motion-triggered wake-up mode. Unlike accelerometers that use a power-duty-cycle scheme for low power consumption, the ADXL367 does not alias the input signal due to undersampling, but instead samples the entire bandwidth of the sensor at all data rates.
The ADXL367 always provides 14-bit output resolution. Data is provided in 8-bit format for more efficient single-byte transfers when lower resolutions are sufficient. 12-bit formatted data is provided for ADXL362 design compatibility. Measurement ranges include ±2 g, ±4 g, and ±8 g, with a resolution of 0.25 mg/LSB over the ±2 g range.
In addition to its ultra-low power consumption, the ADXL367 has many features that enable true system-level power reduction. It includes deep multi-mode output first-in-first-out (FIFO), built-in micropower temperature sensor, internal analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for simultaneous conversion of additional analog inputs with interrupt capability, single- and double-click detection operations (at any at the output data rate, adding only 35 nA), and a state machine that prevents false triggering. In addition, the ADXL367 provides external control of sample time, external clock, or both.
Housed in a 2.2 mm x 2.3 mm x 0.87 mm package, the ADXL367 operates over a wide supply range of 1.1 V to 3.6 V, and can be connected to a host operating from a separate supply voltage if necessary.
The EVAL-ADXL367Z simple breakout board makes it easy to connect the ADXL367 to existing systems. Due to its small size, the EVAL-ADXL367Z has minimal impact on system performance and accelerometer, making it ideal for evaluating the ADXL367 in existing systems. Note that communication with the ADXL367 must be performed digitally via SPI or I2C. The EVAL-ADXL367Z does not contain a processor; firmware must be provided externally by the user. For evaluation boards with a processor, use the EVAL-ADXL367-SDP.
The EVAL-ADXL367-SDP is an easy-to-use evaluation system to quickly start testing and evaluating the ADXL367 accelerometer. The system consists of a main board (EVAL-SDP-CB1Z evaluation platform), an interface board (EVAL-SDP-INTER4-Z), and a satellite board (EVAL-ADXL367Z breakout board).
The EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board, also known as "SDP-B", connects directly to the PC via a USB cable, using the USB connection to provide communication and power to the board. The SDP-B connects to the interface board (EVAL-SDP-INTER4-Z), which provides signal conditioning and electrical connections to communicate with the satellite board (EVAL-ADXL367Z) over the cable. The cable makes the satellite board easy to handle for testing, or stand alone in an environmental chamber for temperature or humidity testing. The splitter plate mitigates data corruption due to temperature and humidity effects of other components.
